My first impression was whoa – why can’t these guys make something that is easy to look at and easier to operate? Look at what a great UI has done to Apple (more on apple and samsung later)! I mean, come on guys – you have got an army of great developers at your aussie headquarters, it is time you get some good UI designers in your team. Even I can design better!!

Apache or Cherokee, David or the Goliath?

Apache has been the numero uno web server since a considerable amount of time, and just like WordPress, it had a near dominance in the web server community. Not that I resent it, but this kind of a dominance is not good for any domain. Now there is this budding star, Cherokee, that is pretty well shaping up to give apache a tough fight, or at least that is what people are saying here, here and here.

Btw, what is with web servers that attracts Latin American connect? Both Apache and Cherokee are from the American continents and the writer of Cherokee is a Spaniard, which again has very strong Latin American connections?

PS: I am mirroring both Apache and Cherokee. Let the best man win!

Now that I have a dedicated server of my own I want to contribute my own way to the world of open source development and I guess the best way I can do that is by setting up mirrors.

Talking about mirrors for FOSS, I just realized there isn’t any mirror for PHP in Estonia. Is going to write to them tomorrow and see if they accept my mirror in their list of official mirrors. Will be fun, I guess.
